During the quarter, the share of mobile payments in terminal transactions increased by 0.8 percentage points
The latest data collected by the cashless.pl service shows that more than one in seven contactless card payments at payment terminals in Poland is made using a mobile device. The share of transactions carried out by users of solutions such as Apple Pay or Google Pay in all contactless payments at POS in Q3 of last year was 14.5 per cent. This is at least according to the latest data from the cashless.pl service and the National Bank of Poland.

As the central bank reported a few days ago, payment terminal operators in Poland settled 2.056 billion contactless payments in the period of July-September 2022. On the other hand, statistics previously published by cashless.pl show that in the same interval, Polish bank customers made 297.2 million contactless mobile payments. In reality, however, there were even more such payments, if only because some banks do not share data in this regard, so cashless.pl's statistics are not complete. The popularity rate of solutions such as Apple Pay or Google Pay is therefore even higher than the data presented here.

The figures we have published are worth looking at from an even broader perspective. Only during the quarter, the popularity of mobile payments increased by 0.8 percentage points, while during the year - by almost 5 percentage points, and as of September 2020, by almost 10 percentage points. In two years, therefore, the share of mobile payments in contactless POS transactions almost tripled. Importantly, according to NBP data, almost all card payments at terminals are now contactless. The indicator presented by us can therefore be referred not only to contactless transactions, but to all card payments at POS.
