For now, we don't know whether the national bank is taking any steps other than registering the name
Today's edition "Dziennik Gazeta Prawna" reports that Poland's largest bank registered several trademarks clearly referring to cryptocurrency in the Polish patent office. Those trademarks include PL coin, Poland coin, Pol coin, Pole coin and Pola coin.

PKO’s press office explained to the newspaper that registering the trademarks is an anticipative step. The bank doesn't want to be surprised by the quickly changing reality. It underlines, however, that registering the trademarks does not imply that they will ever be used and refuses to say whether it is undertaking any projects related to cryptocurrencies.
Interestingly, PKO registered the cryptocurrency-related trademarks in October last year, when the Financial Supervision Authority's opinion on digital currencies was already known. Let me remind you that the financial regulator recommends businesses it supervises to stay far away from cryptocurrencies. It has also placed two cryptocurrency markets it suspects of illegal activity on its so-called public warning list.

When it comes to Polish cryptocurrencies, Digital PLN has been one of the most talked-about projects recently. It's a digital equivalent of the Polish złoty (PLN), which is being developed by Krzysztof Piech, president of the Polish Accelerator of Blockchain Technology and known cryptocurrency enthusiast. After the company announced that it was working on Digital PLN, it lost its partnership with the Ministry of Digitalization and Piech lost his leadership position at one of the streams of the "From paper to digital Poland" government program.
