Doconomy in Poland. BNP Paribas customers will measure the carbon footprint of their purchases

BNP Paribas boasts of being the first bank in Poland to provide customers with a tool developed by a Swedish fintech

BNP Paribas Bank has announced that it is starting a partnership with Doconomy. Thanks to this, the institution will offer its millions of clients a tool to track and measure their carbon footprint. BNP Paribas emphasises that it is the first bank in Poland to make the Doconomy tool available. For now, however, there is no specific date when the new service will be implemented and no decision has been made on how the carbon footprint meter will be made available to clients.

"Doconomy's service - Åland Index - which provides customers with information about the carbon footprint they produce, is active in 17 markets. BNP Paribas Bank Polska and Doconomy are teaming up to explore the possibilities of introducing such services in the Polish market. One of them will most likely be to help users track and measure their carbon footprint. We will provide more information as the cooperation develops. While working on the project, the most user-friendly platform to use this service will be selected. It is usually a mobile application," Mathias Wikström, CEO of Doconomy, told cashless.pl.

You may have read about Doconomy on the cashless.pl website more than once. Recently it turned out that the carbon footprint calculator was made available by Mastercard. The tool was offered to payment card issuers all over the world, which already brings results. Banks can integrate the calculator into their mobile applications and, as a result, customers will gain knowledge about the carbon footprint they generate with their purchasing decisions. The calculations are based on the independently verified methodology of the Åland Index, created by the Bank of Åland in Finland.

The calculator provides a better understanding of, for example, how many trees are needed to absorb the carbon dioxide emitted by a particular purchase. You will also find tips on how to live green and compensate for your impact on the environment by getting involved in, for example, forest restoration projects with the Priceless Planet Coalition.

Doconomy was founded in 2018, and at the end of 2019 you might have read that Mastercard will invest in the startup. Such a partner means that the Swedish fintech's solutions can quickly grow in importance and popularity. And the more people use them, the more data will go to the startup and allow it to improve its tools for promoting sustainable consumption.
